Official Opening of Charlie’s Garden

27th May 2022

We had a beautiful celebration this morning at the official opening of Charlie’s Garden. Charlie’s family and other guests joined us to remember our special friend Charlie on his birthday. The morning started off with beautiful music from our Folk Group. Next up we were entertained with jokes and songs from Charlie’s sister Nancy and some of her talented P6 friends! The jokes were taken from the Joke Book that Charlie and Nancy created to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Charity. We also listened to Rose and Neil read two beautiful poems that remind us of Charlie.
We were delighted to welcome back a past pupil, Nara who was a friend of Charlie’s and a member of his class. Nara read a lovely poem that she wrote about Charlie and also a special story that Charlie wrote. Neil then introduced our fantastic choir who sang two songs, ‘We’re All Made of Stars’ and ‘When Children Rule the World’.

The Craig family also provided a special treat for all of the children in the school. The children were delighted to receive a delicious ice cream from the Mr Whippy Ice cream van - thank you Nancy, Fintan and Cliodhna!

The celebrations finished off with a lovely lunch for Charlie’s family and invited guests.

It was a truly wonderful day and a very special tribute to our friend Charlie. Thank you to all of the children and to Charlie's extended family for making it so special.

’Sometimes you have to lie in the dark to see the stars...’

The Star

A light went out on Earth for us,

The day we said goodbye,

And on that day a star was born,

The brightest in the sky,

Reaching through the darkness,

With its rays of purest white,

Lighting up the Heavens,

As it once lit up our lives.

With beams of love to heal,

The broken hearts you left behind,

Where always in our memories

Your lovely star will shine
